Learn Unity/C#

Awesome Thoery Idle

Note!

This site is under construction. Don't mind the mess - maybe someday this will be worth reading!

Welcome to Derp...Derp...Code!, my programming journal/blog. This site is more for me than anyone else, but if you are here and reading, that's great! You might wonder about the name - I might be good at programming, but I am a bad programmer, so I tend to derp a lot before producing worthwhile code.

Learning Unity and C#: part 1

It has been a long road to here

After years and years of thinking about it and a couple of false starts, I am finally doing something that feels real and legitimate in my quest to make the Awesome Theory into an actual game that really exists somewhere besides in my head. Around 4 months ago in a Discord channel that I hang out in, someone posted a C#/Unity class that was good/popular and on sale for $10. I immediately bought it, left it open in a tab, and did nothing with it for months. After 3 1/2 months, I finally started it and my first impressions are that it is great! I am learning quickly and have even started making my first game as a part of the course. It is a brick breaker game that the course is using to teach us physics and the Unity engine. I've always liked brick breaker games, so this is a neat experience. It is not done yet, and it will only be a super basic variant of it, but it is progress nonetheless.

Now that I am actually learning the tool that will let me make Awesome Theory Idle into a real thing, I am super excited to just get to it. However, I have many hours of this class to go and I don't want to jump the gun. If I had to guess, I'd estimate that in maybe a month I'll b done with this class and I'll start working the game in earnest. It is going to be an idle dungeon-crawling RPG influenced by Suikoden, Disgaea, Final Fantasy, and other classic RPG games. I think it will be great and I would love if it brought in income at some point, but I'll be happy if I can just make it and finish it and share it with friends. But, the big news and last word here is that, finally, I HAVE STARTED!
